Remembering Charles Christiansen

charles3 About four years ago, BBC teammate Charles Christiansen died in a bike race at PIR.  He was sprinting, hit a steel pole, and died there on the race track.

The pole Charles hit has been barricaded with rubber, and all his family's notes have since been painted over.  Four years later, I wonder how many people remember this event.

Charles left behind a wife and baby girl, and it was really easy to relate to this situation.  I'm sure a lot of my fellow racers can say the same.

So the next time you're out at PIR, give a moment of your thoughts and prayers to Charles' family.

I remember, even though I wasn't there. I had decided not to race that night as I was leaving the next morning for Paris. A friend drove us to the airport and told us that someone had died at PIR. When I checked email on the ground in Paris I was shocked to find out it was someone I knew. I knew Christian by association only, We would congratulate each other when things went well, him on the track and me out at PIR.

Shows how well I know him I can't even refer to him by name correctly. My apologies Charles

It still gives me the creeps to race the PIR track anti-clockwise.
