That sounds like hella fun! I used to live in Goose Hollow - I could do every West Slope climb in my sleep! Then a beer or two in front of the McMenamin's fire pit afterward - a perfect day!
I am gonna give it a go! The beer will be great after the ride if anything someone can dump some on me to wake me up after passing out from oxygen debt!
Ugghh. I have never, ever had to walk up a climb before trying to do this ride last year. I am wearing mountain bike shoes this year--easier to walk in.
Can we have the Portland tour of Flanders on a day that doesn't conflict with Tour of the Willamette? Who can choose between two such glorious events? 3/29 or 4/13? Or run it early in the morning so I can do it first and then drive down and do the crit stage... Not fair to have the two baddest spring cycling events in Oregon happening the same weekend!
I have no say in how or when the event is run. I just happened to receive that notice in what was, as far as you know, an anonymous email. Nobody knows who's behind this ride...maybe it just magically happens once a year.
But what I *do* know is this ride must coincide with the Tour of Flanders. Therefore, you will need to get the Tour of Willamette moved to a new date.
Only the Minnesota contingent will get it. Jason has lived there, as have I. Steve, unfortunately, lives there now. I think my friend Justin, who just moved their temporarily from Portland, said it best the other day:
Minnesota - the only state where you want to stay in side all year round!
Minnesota is flat, so despite all the snow they get, there's no good skiing. Enter Buck Hill (http://buckhill.com).
